Saab Vehicles Included in Latest GM Takata Recall

Your vehicle might be involved in one of the largest and most dangerous recalls in automotive history. General Motors is recalling 200,000 Saab and Saturn vehicles with Takata inflators.

You've probably heard about Takata by now. They're the ones that made airbag inflators that explode with too much force and sometimes send metal shrapnel flying throughout the cabin. They're also the ones that have been linked to a number of deaths and injuries.

But wait, there's more ... at this point so many vehicles have been recalled that replacement parts aren't expected until later this year.

Needless to say, Takata isn't going to make anyone's holiday card list.

It's Been A Record Year for GM Recalls

Big news everyone! GM has now recalled over 30 million vehicles in 2014. That's quite an achievement when you realize they only sold 2.78 million units last year. Maybe we should all chip in and get them a cake? You know, one where the candles spell out "failure" or "get 'em next year champ." I'm not sure how to commemorate such a poor showing.

Cadillac and Saab Recall ∞

The biggest part of that recall involves over 430,000 Cadillac and Saab vehicles that wander all over the highway thanks to a rear suspension problem. Good luck telling your local law enforcement that's why you've been swerving from lane to lane. Here's a breakdown of what you need to know:

The problem: GM blames the wandering wheels on a loose jam nut in the rear tow adjuster link. The loose nut will eventually damage the thread and, given enough time, lead to a complete suspension failure.

The recalled vehicles: The 2010-2015 Cadillac SRX and 2011-2012 Saab 9-4X. 290,000 of the vehicles are in the USA.

Next steps: The recall is expected to begin in November at which point dealers will inspect the left and right rear toe link adjuster lock nuts and replace them if needed.

Owners with questions or concerns can contact Cadillac customer service at 800-458-8006 or Saab customer service at 800-955-9007 and give them recall number 14457.

Wandering wheels aren't the only problems SRX owners are complaining about. There's multiple reports of inaccurate navigation systems, problems with the position of the engine air intake and a faulty sensor in the accelerator pedal.

That sounds like a good 'ole time. Have you had any of those problems? How about something else we haven't heard about yet? Tell us about it here.

Your complaints help our site monitor problem trends, find solutions, notify other owners and, if needed, even grab the attention of safety agencies. That's a lot of power in your hands and it all starts with your answer to this simple question ... [drumroll] ....

Electrical Shorts Could Spark Fires in Driver’s Side Doors

Hey look, everyone! It's another massive GM recall of 8.4 million vehicles. Of those millions, there are 189,000 that have issues with electrical shorts in the driver's door module that can disable all the power windows and locks.

Getting locked out of your vehicle stinks, until you realize the module is capable of overheating and setting your car on fire. GM says this is rare, but from the looks of it these cars end up more well done. Wocka, wocka.

This affects the:

2005-2007 Buick Rainier

2005-2007 Chevy Trailblazer

2005-2007 GMC Envoy

2005-2007 Isuzu Ascender

2005-2007 Saab 9-7X

2006 Chevy Trailblazer EXT

2006 GMC Envoy XL

What To Do Next ∞

GM has not announced when the recall will begin, probably because there's over 28 million vehicles waiting for repairs. In the coming months, keep an eye on your mailbox for an official recall notice with more details. Not literally though -- putting your eye on the mailbox sounds painful and might worry the neighbors.

9-3 Seat Belts Recalled, Again.

The driver's seat belt in the 2004-2011 Saab 9-3 convertible might stop working, prompting an important recall for drivers who don't want to the be thrown from their cars during an accident.

This Isn't The First Time ∞

The cable that controls the automatic tensioning system could break and prevent the belt from retracting properly. An identical problem led to a recall in 2010 on the Saab 9-3 sedan, but the convertible wasn't included at the time because it used "different parts". Apparently the parts weren't the only problem.

As part of the recall, GM will replace the driver's side retractor.

It hasn't been announced when the recall will begin, but GM is telling owners to keep an eye out for a notice in the mail. In the meantime, concerned owners can contact Saab / GM at 800-955-9007. In your other meantime, do whatever it is one does with mean time.
